Support Needed for LYNC Outreach
The Council of Bishops Leadership Gathering in Calgary, October 20-24, offers the Love Your Neighbor Coalition (LYNC) opportunities to grow and strengthen intersectional justice work not just in the US, but also in Africa, Europe, and the Philippines.
LYNC and many of its Partner Organizations will be present in Calgary to build relationships across the UMC. Many Leadership Gathering participants are new, emerging leaders across our worldwide church. Connections forged in Calgary have the potential to shape the UMC for decades. LYNC leaders will use their time in Calgary to connect in spaces outside the official gathering, to build networks, and share important justice-related values with participants.
The goal is to raise $15,000 for this witness. Over $6,000 has already been pledged or donated. Any funds raised that aren't needed in Calgary will go toward LYNC work at the 2028 General Conference. These funds will be used for:
LYNC leaders in Calgary (includes travel, hotel, and meals) - $10,000
Meeting spaces for gathering with participants over lunch and in the evenings - $2,500
Information, Signs, and gifts making LYNC visible - $2,500
Please consider making a gift of $100, $50, $250, or perhaps more to move this work forward. Give online to get your gift recorded now.
In addition to networking with emerging leaders, LYNC’s presence offers excellent opportunities to continue building relationships with key allies from outside the US, further enhancing our ability to network and connect around the world. LYNC’s growing partnership with key UMC leaders outside the US is especially critical because the 2028 General Conference will be the first with a majority of its delegates from outside the US.
LYNC is poised to participate in shaping the denomination and partner with an ever growing network of progressive United Methodists. The bishops hope the gathering will help shape the 2028 General Conference. LYNC Partner Organization leaders are looking forward to building these relationships as we engage in mission work across our worldwide denomination.
